The Société historique de la Saskatchewan (SHS), a non-profit organization founded in 1977, is dedicated to researching, preserving, and sharing the history of the Francophone presence in Saskatchewan. We are looking for an bilingual archivist to join our dynamic team and contribute to promoting Fransaskois heritage.

DESCRIPTION

The incumbent is responsible for managing, processing, preserving, and disseminating Fransaskois historical documents and archives. He or she will work with the entire team to ensure the smooth running of daily operations, projects, and events. He or she will act as a resource person for the Fransaskois community and contribute directly to the planning of the Saskatchewan Historical Society and the acquisition strategies of the Fransaskois Archives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage information resources, such as:
    • Select, acquire, receive, and process information resources.
    • Perform or supervise digitization activities.
    • Inventory and classify information resources.
    • Create or import descriptive metadata and metadata records.
    • Ensure the security and protection of information resources.
    • Ensuring the application of and compliance with legal provisions related to the access, use, and management of information resources.
  • Developing, deploying, and operating management and dissemination tools.
  • Assisting users and clients of the Archives fransaskoises.
  • Providing mediation and training services in archival science and document management.
  • Acting as an expert.
  • Contribute to information governance.
  • Manage Archives fransaskoises projects and services.
  • Collaborate with Saskatchewan Historical Society projects and services.
  • Support the Saskatchewan Historical Society's outreach efforts.
  • Supervise employees and volunteers.
  • Manage and monitor the use of equipment and materials.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: University degree with a minor in archival science (or related field), or a university degree plus a certificate in archival science.
    • Candidates with a university degree but without a certificate in archival science will be considered for the lower-level technician position until they obtain a certificate in archival science as part of a training plan with SHS.
  • MOTIVATION: Candidates must demonstrate:

    • Motivation to settle and actively participate in the cultural and community life of Regina.
  • TOOL MASTERY: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • ORGANIZATION, RIGOR, AND ANALYSIS:
    • Ability to manage multiple files simultaneously.
    • High level of organization and attention to detail.
    • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • COMMUNICATION:
    • Excellent oral, written, and reading skills in French.
    • Good oral, written, and reading skills in English.
    • Comfortable conducting discussions with professionals, donors, and users.
  • AUTONOMY AND TEAM SPIRIT: Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • ETHICS AND PROFESSIONALISM: Respect the professionalism and ethical duties of archivists at all times.
  • ABILITY AND LICENSES:
    • Ability to lift loads up to 20 kilograms.
    • Ability to handle and push rolling carts.
    • Class 5 driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full-time position (37.5 hours/week).
  • Work location in Regina, SK.
  • Start date to be negotiated.
  • Salary based on the current salary scale.
